Tasting around the Popes' Enclave

The Sepia Trail takes you through one of France's administrative oddities: this territory, made up of four villages, is part of the département of Vaucluse, an enclave trapped inside the département of Drôme! The scenery here is charming, with its rows of vines lined with rose bushes, lavender and broom. The Côtes du Rhône reign supreme here, beginning with the Côtes du Rhône Villages Visan and Valréas. The Papal Enclave was bought from Dauphiné by the Popes and then increased by the annexation of the House of the Knights Templar of Richerenches. It is an area with a rich and varied heritage, from the Simiane Château to the cardboard museum in Valréas, via the Templar's city of Richerenches.
