Tasting around the Southern Gard Vineyards
In the 17th century, the consuls of Roquemaure authenticated the region's wine casks by branding
them with the letters 'CDR': "Coste du Rhône". The forerunners, in a sense, of the modern system,
they issued certificates of origin to the producers, before taking the wines to far-off lands. This
trail will take you past two of the area's more prestigious vintages: Lirac, a superbly elegant wine,
and Tavel, a worthy bearer of the title of France's leading rosé...
Standing on the banks of the Rhone, opposite the former papal city of Avignon, Villeneuve lès Avignon
keeps a watchful eye over its nearby rival from the turrets of Saint André Fort, while down below,
