Tasting around the Dentelles de Montmirail
How pretty they are, these little village churches with their campaniles (wrought iron bell towers that let the Mistral blow through)! Gigondas, with its numerous vestiges, Séguret, ranked among the "most beautiful villages in France", Beaumes de Venise and its wonderful Chapel of Our Lady of Aubune: the Côtes du Rhône that grow in this land of legend delight all wine-lovers. Narrow winding streets, small shady village squares with ancient fountains - no doubt about it, you are in the heart of the ancient Provence of the Counts. You will have some climbing to do, it's true, to reach the villages set high on the hillsides, but once you are there, what a view! Les Dentelles de Montmirail, veritable knife blades of limestone that have been sculpted by erosion, seem to leap out of the orchards and vineyards on the hilltops.
